| Kanye West - "Tell It Like It Is!"
Aaron Neville may have sung the song "Tell It Like It Is, " but nobody had the guts to actually DO IT until Kanye West stopped reading from the teleprompter at the MSNBC "Concert for Hurricane Relief" cablecast and expressed a powerful truth, summed up in eight little words. "George Bush does not care about black people." Kanye should be applauded for his courage in speaking out but he didn't go far enough. Because black people aren't the only people President Bush and his government don't care about. Here's a partial list:
The delays in getting help to hurricane victims in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama were at best caused by a combination of criminal negligence, gross incompetence and catastrophic policymaking. By some estimates, half the National Guard troops in these three states were unavailable for disaster aid. Why? Because they were in Iraq, fighting an imperialistic war based on a pack of lies. The levees that breached were never completed. Why? Because the Administration defunded them; choosing to spend the money for the war instead. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have lost everything because of their shortsightedness. Not to mention the shameful cronyism in naming incompetent, patronage appointees to head FEMA and the "Dept. of Homeland Security." Add these dead, injured and displaced people from Hurricane Katrina to the thousands of U.S. military and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who are already casualties of this cruel, unnecessary war. Talk about arrogance! Let's review where our fearless leaders reportedly were during this whole fiasco:
Have they no shame at all? Tell me again about "Compassionate Conservatism?" Until last year I was pretty moderate politically, but I am constantly being pushed farther and farther to the left by the Administration's greed, neglect, but worst its refusal to ever admit a mistake. It's Sept. 11 again and how much safer are we now than four years ago? How has their continual fearmongering, the trillions spent on the war and the additional layers of burocracy made us any safer from one motivated Islamist with a dirty bomb in the New York subway? Tell me again exactly how the Administration is going to prevent another terrorist attack when they can't even prepare for a hurricane they know is coming? This is a national disgrace. If that's the best they can do, then God help us. Our government sure as hell won't!
