Family – Losing Dad at the end of the year really made me feel the love I have both from and for my family. I should get down on my knees every day and thank God for my brothers, Mom and Dad. Oh yeah, and Terri too. She really stepped up through the funeral and the holidays last year. Sometimes it takes a loss to make you want to close ranks and lean on each other. Ryan Shaw – This guy is a 21st Century Sam Cooke! He’s under the radar now but just you wait! His CD, “This is Ryan Shaw,” is the most exciting, soulful debut since Terrance Trent D’arby. The “single,” “Do the 45,” could have been on an early Marvin Gaye album. “Fo’-tah Fahhhve… do the fo’-tah fahhve!” Just electrifying. Watch for this guy!
Ryan Shaw brings it on with the Soul John Edwards – Of all the Democratic candidates, I like what he’s saying the most – end the war, stop the corporatization, give labor a fair shake, fight poverty and health care for everybody. While too many dems tiptoe around the “L-Word,” Edwards is proud to be liberal.
Greg Palast – He’s done some of the most important American journalism since Watergate over the last couple of years with multiple stories on election fraud and war fraud, yet he’s still largely unknown on this side of the pond. No American news outlet will touch him so he has to file his stories from exile in the UK via the BBC. The best investigative journalist you never heard of.
The best journalist you never heard of! Election Year – Is it 2009 yet? I am jazzed that whoever the next president might be, it’s not going to be somebody named Bush. Hopefully not another Clinton, either. Martin Sexton/FOTA Shows – The best concert experience I had last year was watching Martin Sexton tear it up at FOTA while sipping merlot and eating Brie on the lawn. So civilized. When the weather’s nice, FOTA (Friends of the Arts) at the magnificent Planting Fields Arboretum is the best L.I. venue, hands down. Seeing a great performer at a great venue makes the show twice as good. Very cool.
Martin Sexton: Deserving of wider recognition!FOTA Shows: Shhhhh don’t tell anybody!!! Eli and the Giants! OK, I’m man enough to admit I
was wrong. I predicted the Giants
would to 9-7 and totally choke in the first round of the playoffs. I predicted Eli would wuss out and throw
his usual fourth quarter picks. I predicted the Patriots would blow them
out. I predicted they would lose to
Tampa Bay. Shows you what I know… But Hell, as a Giant fan I’m happy to be
wrong! They really showed me
something – a lot of heart. A nice surprise.
Congrats to Eli and the Giants! |
Democratic Leadership – What a bunch of spineless cowards. No kudos whatsoever for Speaker Pelosi or Majority Leader Reid. The Democratic Party really needs to re-think who’s going to drive the legislation on Capitol Hill. It’s a disgrace how little they’ve done to stop the war.
No Impeachment of Bush/Cheney – God, they suck in so many ways and deserve it so much for so many reasons. But it’s a dead issue now, with the Administration going into its last year. Steroids in Sports! – At the end of the day, there’s nothing Major League Baseball can do about any of those so-called “tainted” records because the substances many of these guys took weren’t banned at the time they were set. Maybe they’ll sanction a few token players and continue to give lip service to banning steroids but the bottom line is that they’ll continue to look the other way. …And don’t even get me STARTED about the NFL!
Liars! No Hall of Fame, just lots of shame for you! Hillary! – What a disappointment. I’ll hold my nose and vote for her when she wins the nomination but I won’t like it. Of all the candidates I consider her the one most owned by big corporate interests. When she was running for the Senate, her critics said that she would be too busy running for President to do anything for New York. Alas, they were right. Hey Hil, you did nothing to end the war or try to rein in the bankrupting of the treasury. You were there for it all and didn’t say “boo.” So as far as I’m concerned all I hear from you is, “Blah blah blah blah blah.”
She made a deal with the Devil to be President! Dumbed Down, Sycophant Media - does what it’s told like a good lapdog. ”Heel! Beg! Roll over,” their corporate masters command. And they do. ”Brain Rotting Reality Programming GOOD. Brittney and O.J. GOOD. Paris and Lindsey GOOD. Investigative Journalism BAD. Good Media! Here’s a cookie…” NFL
Sportsopoly – This sports mega conglomerate is so powerful now that
the government can’t regulate or oversee it any more. Now it’s doing yet another big money grab
with the NFL Channel. What happens
when the TV contracts expire and it owns ALL the games? Get ready to dig
deeper for your cable bill. Or find
something else to do on Sundays… and Monday nights… and Thursday nights… and
Saturday nights!!! The Knicks!!! – Unfortunately Knicks fans can’t fire the owner but PLEASE can somebody over at MSG wake up and FIRE ISIAH ALREADY? Come on guys, put him (and all Knick fans) out of his misery!!! Then, back up the truck and get rid of all the veterans, starting with “Starbury!” Blow up this team and start from scratch through the draft. …And please, get some “character” guys with NY roots this time, willya?
One More Year of Bush! – Is it 1/20/2009 yet? Sadly, we have one more year of enduring this national embarrassment as he serves out the last lame duck (please God) year of his presidency. I’m still scared to death he’s gonna start a war with Iran. Let’s pray he doesn’t do too much more damage! |
