Delivering the signed petition for hearings on the Downing St. Memo to the White House!

Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) did America a HUGE service! In spite of the Republican majority's refusal to allow the minority part of the Judiciary Committee to hold hearings in the regular hearing rooms, he went and held them anyway in the basement of the Capitol. He organized a petition to call for an investigation of the Administration's actions as recounted in the now-infamous "Downing St. Memos." These leaked British documents say that the decision to go to war with Iraq was made as early as 2002, when they were telling the American People otherwise. The memos say - far more politely than I would have put it - that, "The intelligence and facts were being shaped around the policy!" Translation: they lied. Bush lied. Cheney Lied. Wolfowitz lied. Condi lied. Rumsfeld lied. Even (sob) Colin Powell lied. They ALL lied!!!

560,000 citizens and 122 members of Congress signed the petition. They held a three-hour hearing that was some of the most riveting testimony the hallowed halls have seen in many a year.

Former Iraq Ambassador Joseph Wilson recounted how the Bush Administration sent him on a mission to find out whether Saddam Hussein was buying Uranium in Niger. When he came back and said it wasn't happening, he was smeared and his wife "outed" to the press as a CIA agent. That, folks, is a FEDERAL CRIME and they need to find out who did it. John Bonifaz spoke on the legal and Constitutional inplications of the Downing St. Memos.

Ms. Cindy Sheehan, who lost her son Casey in the war, got up and wanted to know if her son had died for America, as he believed he did. As a father, my heart goes out to the poor parents of the fallen. God bless this courageous woman! Former CIA Analyst Ray McGovern gave a very clear explanation of how the Administration "cooked the books" and forced the CIA to find a way to make a case for war.

Now, everybody knows that I despise President Bush and his cronies as much as anybody! Lord knows that what these documents imply is almost unthinkable - that the President of the United States LIED our nation into war! It is almost too despicable to believe, even for someone who hates him as much as I do! If they did this heinous thing, they deserve to be ousted and they deserve JAIL!!!

Happily, the New York Democratic Congressional Delegation was well respresented at the hearings with Charles Rangel (D-NY), Nita Lowey (D-NY), Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) and Jerry Nadler (D-NY) But, er... where was OUR Congressman from the NY 2nd CD, Steve Israel? We were looking for ya buddy, WHERE WERE YA???
