Cindy Sheehan at Huntington Book Revue

Cindy Sheehan is, in the much-abused parlance of the Right, "a great American!"

Friday night Cindy Sheehan was at Book Revue in Huntington to sign her new book, "Peace Mom." Terri and I went to hear her speak and even got our picture taken with her. Uh oh, guess we're on the "Watch List" now! Hey, no problem. Monkey Boy and his criminal cohorts have been on OUR LIST from the get-go!

I expected at least half the turnout Hillary Clinton got, where people were lined up for blocks! Alas, there was a decent crowd of peaceniks and Code Pink ladies there but not nearly as many as I'd have thought.

The thing you have to say about Cindy is that she is a "real person!" This woman is not an idealogue or a populist, she is a just a "gold star" mother who is fighting to keep other mothers from losing their sons. If she is trying to find personal healing in the process, well, who can blame her? For this she is lambasted and pilloried by the Right.

The audience was mostly supportive but of course there were the inevitable hecklers. Another "gold star" mother said she resented her son's name being used in antiwar protests such as names of the dead used in displays like the Code Pink ribbons hung there. She actually accused Cindy of profiting from her son's death. How could one mother say that about another?

Another American Legion type first asked the audience for a moment of silence in memory of Casey Sheehan, her lost son, before ripping into her with an aimless rant and the cryptic question, "Do you know who the Twelfth Imam is?" I suppose a rant on "Islamofacism" was going to follow but thankfully she cut him short. What a phony bastard! I was amazed at the serenity Cindy has in the face of such vitriolic and hysterical opposition.

At this late date it's beyond me how anybody in their right mind can support this Administration and this war! The Bush Administration has lied and lied and continues to lie about the war. It refuses to even ACKNOWLEDGE mistakes; much less take any action to fix them. As far as they're concerned, everything is going according to plan. They continue to pass laws that take America down a Fascist road and run the economy into the ground. Pick any issue and the Administration is on the wrong side of it!

Some people (like myself) long for and strive for greatness. Others, like Cindy Sheehan, have it thrust upon them. American history is full of ordinary people like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King who one day decided to take a stand and made a profound impact for positive change. Cindy is the genuine article and definitely belongs in that category. Lord only knows what this stand has cost her personally!

I am so sick and tired of hearing the word "Islamofacism" as the Administration's excuse to justify their illegal and unconstitutional actions. It's the "Republofascism" we have to worry about because they're doing more damage to America than Al Qaida ever could!
