Why Jimmy Carter Sucked a Lot Less than George W. Bush
This diatribe was written to my friend while discussing the Rolling Stone article, "Bush - Worst President In History?" My friend Phil wrote that Jimmy Carter deserves the title of "Worst President Ever." Here's my response:

OK, the GOP spinmeisters are right that when they say Jimmy Carter wasn't the greatest president...

...But NOBODY ever accused him of being stupid or corrupt like THIS GUY!

Ten Reasons Carter Sucked a Lot Less than Bush:

1) The Allman Brothers raised money for Carter. The Dixie Chicks made one offhand remark critical of Bush and got death threats.

2) Bush has presided over unprecedented government corruption and looted the treasury to enrich his oil conglomerate masters.. Carter was broke when he left the White House.

3) Carter tried to achieve peace in the Middle East. Bush started a war to sieze Iraq's oil.

4) Nobody ever questioned Carter's integrity. Even his political enemies considered him an honest man.

5) Nobody questioned Carter's intelligence, either. Even Bush's supporters consider him an anti-intellectual man who only hears what he wants to hear. The best quote on Bush I've read is that he is, "A man of applied ignorance who has nourished his mind with the empty calories of comfy dogma."

6) By his tireless charity work over the past 25 years, Carter has shown that he really DOES care about what's best for America. Can anybody name ONE philanthropic project Bush his participated in, ever?

7) Carter levied Windfall Taxes when oil companies started reaping obscene profits through price gouging. Bush just allowed Exxon/Mobil to have the most profitable quarter of any corporation, ever. Over the past year everyone who bought gasoline for them paid an extra 30 cents a gallon so their Chairman could retire with a $400 million bonus! Disgraceful.

8) Both are horrendous orators but Carter was always a straight talker, even when the news was bad. Bush just tells the people what he thinks they want to hear. He's lied to the American People so many times we've become numb to it; dismissing it as "spin." That term didn't even exist before the Age of Rove.

9) No terrorist attacks on American soil happened on Carter's watch. Bush's political team was planning for a "Pearl Harbor-type event" at least three years before he came into office (that is, as opposed to being elected)!

10) Nobody's ever said that Carter was a figurehead being manipulated from behind the scenes.
